This course is aimed at women who want to work as midwifery assistants in homebirth or out-of-hospital settings, specifically in the United States. Birth Assistants can work in home birth or free-standing birth centers throughout the U.S. under the supervision of a certified or licensed midwife. Often, taking a birth assistant course and working as an assistant is the first step in becoming a midwife yourself. This is a course which will give you an introduction to becoming a birth assistant.

During this workshop, you are taught everything needed to introduce you to what it means to be a birth assistant. We will cover normal birth and the many skills necessary to be an assistant in an out-of-hospital setting. The skills we teach range from auscultating FHT, drawing medications, simple birth maneuvers, charting, understanding the stages of labor and much much more.

Becoming a Birth Assistant will offer you the chance to work closely with midwives, learning valuable skills in the birth room as well as serving mothers, babies, and families in your community.  You will be the hands for the midwife and the heart to the women you serve.
