The Modules of Midwifery (MOM) is a program aimed to train women as competent midwives, first completing their apprenticeship in the United States while earning the CPM or LM credential and then going into rural or developing communities to serve as missionary midwives. It is our goal to teach midwifery as a sacred calling. MOM is a holistic program combining community development and science and technology, alongside the specialty of midwifery, to achieve coalescent sustainability in the nations around the world, and within our own nation. Our initial MOM course is an apprenticeship prep program readying you to join a practice and begin working as an entry-level midwifery student as a PEP apprentice on track for certification in the US. MOM is a 12-week direct-entry midwifery program and includes the opportunity to certify in NRP, CPR and receive MEAC credits for IV and suturing. Credits cannot be transferred to a Certified Nurse Midwifery (CNM) training program. This program is for certifications given to non-nurse midwives.
Our Program
Our in-person quarter is designed as a survey course. This means it is an introductory course providing a general overview of midwifery and a comprehensive understanding of the varied pathways to certification. During this time students are awakened to the current state of midwifery and childbirth in our day, both here in the US and throughout the nations. Foundational knowledge of the original design and intent for birth is laid. This will allow students to grow in the understanding of how we as midwives can be instrumental in the return to the God-given mandate and design of birth. Furthermore, students will gain clarity on how we, as midwives and birth workers, can contribute to the reformation of birth ideals in our generation.
This course includes teacher lead classroom facilitation, hands-on skills and can be followed by independent self-study courses during the apprenticeship process. An international outreach is offered following the course if desired, and apprenticeship placement opportunities are available throughout the US. (Please note, due to the current Covid conditions around the world, outreachs will be determined closer to the end of the quarter, and may not be offered at all.) Following this time you will have the opportunity to continue in coursework to complete a total of 24 classes spanning approximately two years by taking classes on-line during your apprenticeship alongside your fellow classmates in directed forums and as a cohort. Successful completion of each quarter allows you to proceed to the next.
Students will not attend birth during the in-person quarter as it is didactic in nature. However, many students are ambitious and connect with the Bozeman community. We have had many students attend births during several of our MOM courses by offering photography, videography or doula assistance to moms they connect with in the community, but births are not provided during the MOM course. Students will have the opportunity to attend prenatal appointments and will learn all the skills needed to be competent in prenatal care as we have many moms who share their growing bellies with us throughout the course.
This program is to equip you not only with a foundational understanding of midwifery, but also to prepare you with needed skills and the appropriate understanding of how to critically think. You will learn to examine situations and to quickly and appropriately respond, preparing you to attend a mother and her baby, alongside a trusted midwife, in her home or a birth center. We take skills and birth scenarios very seriously in our program and work hard to make each one realistic and challenging.
Skills & Scenarios
Our emphasis is strongly hands-on practice. We believe it helps to build a strong foundation, preparing you to be a capable birth assistant ready to assist the midwife in any situation that should arise. This is just the beginning of your own journey to learning how to manage pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum.
Cost of Living
Many of you might wonder about the cost of living in Montana. Compared to Hawaii (where we have previously been located), it is quite inexpensive, which is ultimately one of the main reasons we have chosen to relocate back to the mainland. The cost of living is affordable and single students should expect to budget $800-$1000 per month including food, shared housing, and transportation.
Expectations & Community
The MOM course is a full-time program, and academics are expected to come first and be done with excellence, but there will be plenty of time for fun. One of the many reasons we have chosen to run our program under the Big Sky is for students, teachers, and special guests to be able to soak in the beauty and tranquility of our home. Montana is a wild and rugged land with its diverse beauty rivaled by only a sacred few. It is here, in the shadow of the majestic splendor of His creation, the world quiets itself and we can once again hear His voice. Here you will not only learn about the design of childbirth and the skills of midwifery, but also the art of quieting yourself in the storm and finding strength in the stillness. It is such an incredible gift we have been given to be able to learn, soak and sink deep into the understanding of the calling of midwifery. It will be here where you will find yourself and grasp a deeper understanding of the calling you are about to walk into, while surrounded by the serenity of this land. This season should be embraced to the fullest. It is a gift to be unwrapped daily.
This track currently feeds into the direct-entry CPM (PEP) certification program:
Our program prepares you to enter the PEP process to become a Certified Professional Midwife, CPM which is recognized in 31(+) states within the USA. The CPM process requires a minimum of 2 years of training, alongside student competency, and can include the MOM didactic portion for observed birth and skills training. Attending a birth or births is not guaranteed during the MOM course, although many students will find doula clients during their time in Bozeman or be invited into births due to photography or videography skills. There is no guarantee you will attend a birth during the in-person session of this course; that will occur during outreach and/or apprenticeship placement. This is why you are strongly encouraged to attend and observe as many births as possible prior to the beginning of class. Our course is designed and developed to be a competency-based direct entry program integrating MEAC seminars and credits until full accreditation is achieved.
Out-of-class assignments will be given for each class as this is an extensive subject and not all material will be covered during class time. During the initial quarter, all students will take the following classes covering a 12 week period: Global Perspectives, Prenatal Care and Assessment, Normal Labor and Birth and Birth Emergencies. Assignments include, but are not limited to: reading, journal entries, research, essays, forum posts, and a research paper. Both clinical skills and a written examination will be given at the end of the initial quarter. Comprehensive examinations and/or research papers will be given at the end of each independent study course.
During the 3 month MOM course, we will take 3 staff-lead adventures. These adventures are not mandatory, but most likely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we encourage you to take advantage of each one offered. There will likewise be plenty of time to explore on your own. Also, during the course of our time together, we truly want to value, honor and grow community. When we are not in class we want to take the time to fellowship together and enjoy one another over delicious food. We will have planned themed pot-luck style family dinners throughout our time together (with the main dish provided by GoMidwife) and one special and beautifully prepared Pilgrimage Dinner where your leaders will serve you, your families and fellow classmates on the last night.

Tuition is $5,200 for the 12 weeks of in-person training plus a $500 non-refundable deposit to secure your placement. The $500 deposit helps us secure teachers for the quarter among other planning and budgeting aspects. This price does not include food and housing or transportation.
Payment in full is due 1 month prior to the first day of class. A 10% discount is given when paid in full three months prior to the class start date (specific due dates will be given for individual quarters). There are no exceptions or extensions to the discount.
After the completion of the in-person MOMs course, we offer 20+ more didactic classes via independent study as you begin your apprenticeship. Students who have successfully completed the 12-week training are granted an 80% discount on all independent study courses.
